Middle Farm

A working farm about three miles inland from Newhaven that's been in the same family for generations. Middle Farm is the sort of place you stumble across rather than plan for - proper Sussex countryside, with fields rolling towards the South Downs and a farm shop that actually sells things worth buying.

You're not coming here for tourist attractions in the traditional sense. There's no gift shop or visitor centre. What you get is a genuine working landscape - animals, crops, the lot - and a chance to see how farms operate without the theme park trappings. It's the kind of spot where families with young kids might spend an afternoon poking around, and walkers heading through the Newhaven area often pass by. Older visitors tend to appreciate the agricultural heritage angle.

The farm shop does decent business, and locals know it well. Depending on the season, you might catch lambing or harvest activity if you time it right. It's not a destination that demands hours of your time - more a pleasant detour if you're exploring the area around Three Ponds Holiday Park or Golden Cross Holiday Park, both within a few miles.

Best suited to people who actually like farms rather than those expecting manicured attractions. There's no charge that I'm aware of, though they'd appreciate spending in the shop. Go early on weekends if you want to avoid the crowd, though even then it's hardly heaving. The South Downs walks nearby make this a useful stop rather than a main event.
