The first time you spot Merthyr Mawr, it's the sheer scale of the sand dunes that catches you off guard. This sprawling estate near Porthcawl comprises one of Wales' most impressive stretches of coastal dunes, backed by woodland and open grassland that feels genuinely wild despite being just a short drive from the coast.
