Melincourt Waterfall

The walk down to Melincourt Waterfall is honestly better than the waterfall itself, which sounds harsh but bear with me. You're threading through woodland thick enough to feel properly remote, even though Port Talbot's not far off, and then suddenly there's this cascade dropping into a pool ringed by moss-covered rocks. It's about 80 feet or so - respectable rather than dramatic.

Where this place really works is as a proper leg-stretcher if you're based at Willow Springs Campsite just down the road. The track takes roughly 45 minutes to an hour depending on your pace and how much you faff about taking photos. It's not difficult, though the final descent is steep enough that you'll want decent shoes. Kids will either love splashing in the pool at the bottom or complain their legs hurt - there's no middle ground.

The approach path follows Melincourt Brook, which does most of the heavy lifting scenery-wise. Ferns, old trees, the sound of water - it's got atmosphere even if the waterfall itself disappoints on a dry day. Summer's fine, but autumn or just after rain and this place genuinely sings.

Free to visit, obviously. No facilities, no car park - you'll be parking up near Port Talbot and making your own way. Not Instagram gold, but a decent outing if you're stopping locally. The campsite's excellent for a base.
