Meall a' Choire Dhuibh

The walk up Meall a' Choire Dhuibh isn't difficult, but it's proper exposed - you'll feel the weather up here. From Lochearnhead it's a straightforward trudge that takes most people two to three hours there and back, and the summit views across the Trossachs are genuinely worth the effort. On a clear day you can see for miles. On a grey one, well, you'll be socked in by cloud within five minutes of the top.

This is very much a hill for walkers rather than casual strollers. The paths are reasonable but there's real elevation involved, and the ground gets boggy in places. Families with teenagers who don't mind a proper walk will manage fine; younger kids will find it tedious unless they're the outdoor type. Solo hikers and hill-baggers will absolutely have it.

There's nothing at the summit itself - no café, no facilities - so bring water and something to eat. Go early and you'll have it nearly to yourself, which is when it's best. The light's also better in morning for photographs. Afternoon clouds roll in fast around these parts.

It's close enough to pop up there without the faff of driving to some distant peak, and the Trossachs area has plenty of other walks and glens to explore when you've had enough of summits.
