Mattersey Priory

The ruins of Mattersey Priory sit quietly in the Nottinghamshire countryside between Retford and Bawtry, easy to miss if you're not looking for them. What remains are the weathered stone foundations and partial walls of a Gilbertine monastery founded in the 12th century - the sort of place where history feels genuinely tangible rather than polished for tourists.
