Mary Stevens Park

Mary Stevens Park sits just outside Kidderminster, a proper rescue story of a nature reserve. What you've got here is 38 acres of woodland, lakes, and grassland that was pretty much written off before locals fought to save it. The park's done a complete turnaround - it's now genuinely worth a morning or afternoon poke around.

Walkers will find decent trails threading through ancient woodland and alongside two small lakes. The paths are manageable, nothing too demanding, though wet patches need watching after rain. Birdwatchers genuinely rate it - woodpeckers, nuthatches, and herons show up regularly if you keep your eyes sharp. Families with young kids get something out of the open grassland areas, though it's not a bells-and-whistles playground type of spot.

There's a visitor centre with basic facilities, and from what I can gather, entry's free. You'd want a solid couple of hours here to do it justice - three if you're lingering by the lakes. Early morning's best for wildlife and dodging crowds.

If you're staying at Wolverley Camping and Caravanning Club Site just down the road, this makes an easy add-on to a park holiday. It's the sort of place that works well as part of a broader Worcestershire exploration rather than as a main event. Nice enough, does what it sets out to do, and a genuine bit of countryside restoration worth supporting with a visit.
