Martham Duck Pond

The walk around is flat and easy, which matters if you're staying at one of the holiday parks nearby like Waxham Sands or Golden Beach. Kids will find it reasonably interesting for half an hour, though it's not the sort of place that keeps under-eights entertained for long without a scavenger hunt or similar. Spring and autumn are when it's worth the journey from Great Yarmouth - the water's busier and there's actually something to see beyond the usual residents. Summer can feel a bit quiet. There's no visitor centre or café, so come prepared. It costs nothing and there's no formal admission, which is refreshing. If you're basing yourself at one of the local holiday parks and want a gentle morning walk that doesn't involve the beach or fairground arcades, Martham fills that gap perfectly well. Don't expect drama, but do expect somewhere genuinely peaceful and working.
