Mars Hill

The woodland around Mars Hill, just outside Henley-in-Arden, is one of those places that rewards a proper ramble without demanding much in return. It's mixed forest - oak, beech, the lot - with decent paths that meander through without being aggressively signposted, which is rather nice. You get that authentic woods-walk feeling rather than the manicured park experience.

The hill itself isn't steep, but the ground can be boggy after rain, so good boots matter. Most people spend an hour to ninety minutes here, which feels about right before the novelty of tree-spotting wears thin. It's genuinely good for families with kids old enough to manage uneven terrain without constant hand-holding; younger ones might find it dull after twenty minutes of "Are we there yet?"

Historically inclined types will poke around hoping for something, but this is more about the woodland character than any ruins or monuments. The real draw is the peace and the space to breathe - proper countrywide stuff without the car park circus.
