Market Harborough Golf Club

The golf course sits on the edge of Market Harborough, a proper 18-hole setup that's been going since 1899. If you're a golfer staying at one of the nearby caravan parks - Buttercup Meadow is only a couple of miles away - this is the obvious choice for a round. The course winds through decent enough parkland with enough challenge to keep you interested without being a complete nightmare off the tee.

It's exclusively for members and their guests, so you'll need to know someone or arrange a green fee visit in advance. Not the kind of place to just rock up and expect a game. That said, the club has a proper clubhouse with a bar, which is the civilised way to finish a morning's round. Allow a good four and a half hours for 18 holes here, longer if the course is busy.

Golfers will get the most out of it, obviously. If your group includes non-players, it's a bit of a damp squib - there's no driving range open to casual visitors or anything to keep non-golfers occupied while you're out on the back nine. It works well as part of a week-long caravan holiday in the area though. Market Harborough itself is worth a poke around - proper market town with some decent pubs and the High Street isn't dire.
