It's genuinely worth a visit - not for the architecture alone, though the Victorian bones are solid enough - but because it's the kind of place that tells you what a community actually cares about.

You'll find the expected shelves of books, local history collections that rival proper museums, and staff who actually know their patch. There's a real Wiltshire flavour to the place. Kids won't be bored - there's a children's section, and it's quiet enough that you can actually hear yourself think, which is rarer than you'd expect. The periodicals section is decent if you want to catch up on something specific.

If you're staying at Burton Hill Caravan & Camping Park or the glamping site at Whychurch Farm, both just down the road, this makes a solid rainy-day stop or a morning browse before heading out to explore the town proper. Malmesbury Abbey dominates the skyline and deserves your attention too, but the library complements that perfectly - it's where you go to understand what the abbey meant to people over the centuries.

Admission is free, and you can easily spend an hour here without rushing. Go midweek if you want genuine quiet. It's unpretentious and proper useful - exactly what a local library should be.
