Malder's Shave

Trees tower overhead at Malder's Shave, a proper woodland tucked away near Faversham in Kent. It's the sort of place you stumble upon rather than plan for - dense forest floor, decent paths winding through, and enough quiet to actually hear yourself think. The canopy does its job in summer; in autumn the floor turns into a carpet of leaves that's genuinely lovely to walk through.

This is walkers' territory, plain and simple. You're not coming here for dramatic vistas or photo moments - you're coming for the simple pleasure of being among trees. Kids under eight might find it a bit samey after half an hour, but older ones who enjoy spotting wildlife or just mucking about on woodland paths will be content enough. The forest has that slightly wild feel that makes it worth exploring beyond the obvious routes.

If you're staying at nearby Painters Farm Camping Site (just over a mile away), Malder's Shave makes an easy morning or late afternoon walk - nothing strenuous, nothing that demands hours of your time. Mount Ephraim Glamping Pods is a shade further but still within easy reach. Both are solid bases for exploring this part of Kent, and the woodland adds variety to a holiday that might otherwise centre on the town itself.

Bring proper shoes if the ground's wet. There's no visitor facility, no café, no gift shop - just forest and footpaths. That's rather the point.
