Lower Lake

Lower Lake sits just outside Worksop, a proper spot for a quiet afternoon by the water without the crowds you'd find at bigger reservoirs. It's a working water supply, so you're not here for swimming or messing about, but for walking round the perimeter, watching for waterfowl, and getting some fresh air. The path is straightforward - not demanding, just pleasant - and takes you past reed beds and open water with decent views across to the far bank.

This is the sort of place where you'd come with binoculars if you're into birds, or with kids who need to burn energy without needing theme park entertainment. An hour is plenty to do the loop comfortably. If you're staying at Bawtry Caravan Park six miles away, it's worth a half-morning excursion before heading elsewhere - close enough not to feel like a trek, far enough that it feels like proper countryside. The real draw is the peace. On a decent day it's a cut above your typical municipal park pond.

Go in autumn or spring when birdlife is active. Summer weekends can pull day-trippers, which rather defeats the purpose. Winter's fine if you don't mind a bit of mud. There's no admission charge - it's a public access area - and you can park nearby and be out within minutes. Worth the detour if you're in the area and want something gentler than a major attraction.
