Lower Covert

Deep woodland in Warwickshire, Lower Covert is the sort of place where you actually have to want to be there - it's not on the way to anything else, and that's precisely why it's worth the drive from Warwick. The forest floor is thick with leaf litter, the canopy closes in properly, and there's real quiet here. Paths wind through mixed woodland with enough variation to keep a decent walk interesting for a couple of hours without feeling forced.

Walkers will get the most from it. The terrain isn't demanding, but it's genuine forest walking rather than park wandering - you're navigating woodland rather than following manicured routes. Families with young children can manage the paths, though toddlers might find the ground uneven in places. If you're after a playground and café, go elsewhere. This is green, undisturbed, and occasionally muddy.

Timing depends entirely on whether you're doing a quick stomp or settling in for a proper explore. Allow an hour minimum, two hours if you're not rushing. Spring and autumn are best - summer gets sticky and humid, winter can be boggy depending on rainfall.

Based near Warwick, it slots well into a forest-focused holiday, especially if you're staying at either Hilltop Hideaways or Harbury Fields Farm - both solid five-star caravan parks within six miles. Pair it with other local woodland walks rather than expecting it to be a full-day destination on its own.
