Low Wood

Low Wood sits just outside Market Rasen, a proper slice of Lincolnshire woodland that punches above its weight for a quick escape from the flatlands. It's a working forest - Forestry Commission land - so you get that mix of conifers and broadleaves rather than manicured parkland, which is honestly more interesting if you've got eyes for that sort of thing.

The woodland works best for walkers who don't need everything signposted and laminated. There are paths threading through, though don't expect a fully mapped network - it's the sort of place where you wander, find a quiet spot under the trees, and remember why you wanted to get away from the caravan for an hour. The canopy is thick enough that it feels properly wooded even on busy days, which aren't many.

Kids will get restless quickly if they're after adventure playgrounds and visitor centres. But if yours are the type who'll spend twenty minutes investigating moss and climbing fallen logs, they'll be content. The forest floor after rain is properly soft underfoot.

It's free to access, and realistically you'll want an hour, maybe ninety minutes tops unless you're serious about a full woodland walk. The real value is how close it sits to Wolds View Country Park just six miles away - so you could combine a morning foraging through the trees with a proper day at the caravan park facilities. The contrast between the two actually works: one's low-key and wild-feeling, the other's properly set up for families.
