Lord's Walk

Walk out from Salisbury and you'll eventually stumble onto Lord's Walk, a proper country ramble that locals have been trudging for centuries. It's basically a designated footpath that loops through the Wiltshire countryside, giving you decent views across the downs without needing any special climbing gear or hiking boots that cost a fortune.

The walk itself is straightforward enough - mostly flat terrain with the occasional gentle incline, the sort of thing families with reasonably fit kids can manage without complaint. You get a real sense of rural England here; fields, hedgerows, the occasional gate that sticks, and if you time it right, minimal crowds. Budget two to three hours depending on your pace and how many times you stop to look at the view.
