Longstone Hill

The walk up Longstone Hill from Holford takes about forty minutes if you're not dawdling, and the effort pays off with proper views across the Quantocks and towards the Bristol Channel. It's not a mountain - more a proper ridge walk with real character. The path is well-trodden, mostly clear underfoot, though it can get muddy after rain so decent boots matter.

What you're really after here is the sense of space and the fact that hardly anyone seems to make the trip. You'll spot the trig point at the summit (a decent photo opportunity if you're that way inclined), and on a clear day the visibility stretches enough to justify the climb. Walkers with young legs will find it manageable; families with toddlers might find it slower going but nothing impossible. The views reward you for getting to the top, which isn't always guaranteed on Somerset walks.

The beauty of staying at Moorhouse Campsite just under two miles away is you can time it for late afternoon, catch the light, and be back for tea. Haven Doniford Bay and the other parks within five miles mean you're well-positioned for exploring this part of the Quantocks without needing a car every single day. It's the sort of walk that proves you don't need famous names or café facilities to have a proper outing - just decent legs and clear skies.
