Long Loch

The water at Long Loch sits absolutely still on a calm day - proper mirror-like, which is rare enough in Scotland that you notice it. It's a modest stretch of water just outside Blairgowrie, neither dramatic nor particularly wild, but genuinely pleasant if you're already in the area.

You can walk the shoreline without any fuss, which is the main draw. It's the sort of place where locals bring dogs and anglers know the fishing can be decent. The banks are accessible enough for a gentle ramble, though don't expect signposted trails or facilities - this is more of a low-key natural space than a managed visitor attraction. The walk takes an hour or so depending on which direction you wander and how often you stop to watch the water.

Families with younger kids might find it a bit underwhelming on its own - there's no cafe, no play area, nothing to do except walk and look. But if you're staying at Five Roads Caravan Park nearby, it's worth knowing about as a quiet spot to stretch your legs before or after a day exploring the wider Perthshire landscape. Blairgowrie itself has enough going on - shops, restaurants, a couple of local attractions - that Long Loch works as a pleasant side visit rather than a destination in itself.

Go early morning or late afternoon when the light's better and you'll have the place largely to yourself. Midday can feel a touch featureless.
