London Bridge

The current London Bridge is a proper disappointment if you're expecting Victorian Gothic drama. What you get instead is a 1970s concrete affair that replaced the famous old one - shipped off to Arizona in 1968, which is still bonkers to think about. It crosses the Thames between the City and Southwark, linking Tower Bridge with London's financial district, so you'll end up here anyway if you're doing the south bank walk.

The bridge itself takes roughly five minutes to cross on foot. There's no charge, nothing to "do" in the traditional sense - you're just walking over it, clocking the view downriver towards Tower Bridge and across to the Shard. Early morning is best if you want photos without tourist crowds. Families with restless kids will find this a bit thin on its own, though the surrounding area more than compensates. Borough Market is steps away, the Thames Path is excellent for a wander, and the historic buildings along the south bank give context to what you're seeing.

If you're staying at Lovat Parks nearby, this makes an easy half-hour detour into central London. Don't come expecting the bridge to blow your mind - come for what surrounds it. The real London Bridge nostalgia lives in the history books now, not the stonework.
