Lolly Moor is one of those Norfolk landmarks that doesn't announce itself loudly, which is precisely why it's worth knowing about. It's a proper chunk of open heathland east of Attleborough, the sort of place that rewards a quiet wander more than it rewards a quick photo stop. The moor itself is wide and windswept, with low scrubby vegetation and big skies - Norfolk's landscape at its most honest.

Walkers absolutely get the best from it. The terrain is straightforward enough that you're not wrestling with mud or negotiating boardwalks, but there's enough space to actually walk somewhere rather than just circle a visitor centre car park. Birdwatchers and anyone interested in lowland heathland ecology will find it compelling too - it's the kind of habitat that's increasingly rare in England, so there's genuine conservation value in it beyond the views.

Allow a couple of hours if you're making a proper visit rather than a quick pass-through. The light changes across the moor throughout the day, which matters if you care about that sort of thing. Bylaugh Country Park Caravan and Campsite is a reasonable base just six miles away if you're building a Norfolk heathland week around walking sites.

Honest verdict: it's not going to thrill you with sudden vistas or dramatic features. But if you're already in Norfolk and you appreciate wide-open moorland without the crowds, it's genuinely worth the detour.
