Lodge Copse

Walk far enough into Lodge Copse and you'll forget you're near Dorking at all. This quiet forest sits just outside town, offering proper woodland without the crowds you'd find at bigger attractions. The trees are dense enough to give real shade even on bright days, and the paths wind through without feeling manicured or over-managed.

It's the sort of place where you wander rather than follow a set route. Kids will enjoy the space to explore, though there's nothing dramatically exciting - no climbing frames, no visitor centre, just woodland as it is. Adults after a decent forest walk will get a good hour or two out of it, especially if you're comfortable with unmapped terrain and spotting birds or deer.

The lack of formal facilities means it costs nothing and opens whenever you turn up. That's both a strength and a weakness: you get genuine woodland freedom, but there's no café to collapse into afterwards. Bring water.
