Loch na Creige Maolaich

You'll find this loch tucked away in the hills above Inveraray, a proper quiet spot that doesn't get the crowds of its more famous neighbours. The water sits dark and still most days, reflecting the surrounding hills - it's the sort of place where you understand why people move to Argyll and then never leave. There's a rough track down to the shore, and once you're there it's just you, the water, and whatever weather Scotland decides to throw at you.

It's not a destination that'll keep you occupied all afternoon. An hour's walk around the loch, maybe a bit of photography if the light's decent, and you're done. Walkers will appreciate the solitude, and it's genuinely lovely if you're after a break from the busier tourist trails. Families with small kids might find it a bit underwhelming - there's no facilities, no café, no activities beyond walking.

The real value is as an add-on when you're staying at either Fyne Glamping or Strathlachlan Caravan Park, both within a short drive. It works well as a morning walk before heading into Inveraray itself, or as a quiet interlude between busier days exploring the wider area. Admission is free.
