Llanmadoc Hills

The walk up Llanmadoc Hills rewards you with proper coastal views across the Gower Peninsula - nothing fancy, just clean air and space. It's a nature reserve that doesn't demand much: a straightforward climb through gorse and heather leads to open moorland where you can see all the way to the Bristol Channel on a clear day.

This is walker territory, frankly. The paths are well-trodden and the gradient's manageable, but you're looking at an hour up and back down at a steady pace. Families with young legs will manage fine; toddlers might struggle with the uneven ground. Bird watchers come here regularly - the scrub habitat attracts warblers and stonechats depending on season.

Access appears free and you'll find basic parking near the trailhead. Go midweek if you can, or early morning at weekends, because the car park fills fast when the weather's decent.

If you're camping at Whiteford Bay or Broughton Farm - both practically on your doorstep - this is an obvious morning or afternoon outing. The hills sit right on the peninsula's western edge, so you can combine it with beach time at Whiteford Sands. For a longer Gower break, there's Weobley Castle nearby if you fancy mixing coastal walks with history.
