Little Tortworth Copse

Walking into Little Tortworth Copse feels like stepping into someone's back garden - in the best way possible. It's a modest woodland just outside Dursley, the sort of place where the trees are genuinely old and the paths wind through without any fussy signposting or visitor infrastructure.

You'll find yourself among mixed woodland with plenty of shade, decent paths that don't demand serious hiking boots, and the kind of quiet you actually came here for. It's not a showpiece wood with viewpoints or facilities; it's just proper woodland. The canopy's thick enough that even on a grey day it feels atmospheric. Walkers, dog owners, and anyone after a straightforward forty-minute amble will get the most out of it. Small children might find it a bit samey after half an hour unless they're the sort who like turning over logs and spotting insects.

There's no entrance fee that I can find, no visitor centre, no cafe - you just arrive and walk. The paths are well enough maintained that you won't need special boots, though it does get muddy after rain. Go in autumn when the floor's carpeted with leaves, or early spring when the wood's starting to wake up.

It slots nicely into a park holiday from either Pepper Pot Caravan Park or Wixoldbury Farm Glamping - close enough for a morning walk without eating into your day, but far enough that you're getting something more than a car park wood. Dursley itself is nearby if you need supplies or lunch afterwards.
