Walking into Little Purnel Copse feels like stepping sideways into someone's private woodland. It's a modest patch of forest near Southampton, the sort of place locals know about and visitors stumble upon by accident - and that's precisely its appeal.

The copse is genuinely small, which means you won't spend hours here, but that's not really the point. What you get is a proper woodland walk through beech and oak, with decent paths that don't demand hiking boots.
