Little Hunt Hill

The walk up Little Hunt Hill takes about forty minutes from Stirling town centre, which is either brilliant or annoying depending on your mood. The summit sits at 333 metres and rewards you with proper views across the Forth Valley - you can see the Wallace Monument clearly on its perch at Abbey Craig, and on a decent day the Pentland Hills rise up to the south. It's not dramatic, and there's nothing at the top except a trig point and the satisfaction of having reached it. The path is straightforward enough, though muddy after rain. Most people get more from this walk than the destination itself - it's the climb through scrubland and occasional tree cover that matters, not some earth-shattering vista at the end. Families with young children might find thirty minutes of trudging uphill a slog, but teenagers who can manage a decent hike will be fine. The real value is proximity to Stirling itself. You can knock this out as a morning outing from Witches Craig Caravan & Camping Park or Craighead Howf, both less than five miles away, then head back for lunch. Go early or late in the day if you want to avoid the school groups that trudge up here. Free, obviously - it's just a hill. Allow two hours return if you're not rushing, longer if you fancy sitting about at the top. It's less about the destination and more about staying active while you're in the area.
