Little Hill Park

Little Hill Park is a proper nature reserve just outside Leicester, the sort of place that rewards a quiet morning walk far more than a rushed afternoon visit. The reserve sits on what was once industrial land, now rehabilitated into grassland and woodland where you can actually spot things - skylarks if you're lucky, certainly rabbits, and in spring the wildflowers put on a decent show.

Walkers and birdwatchers will get the most from this one, particularly if you go early morning when the place is genuinely quiet. Spring and early summer are the best seasons - you'll miss the wildflower peak if you visit in winter. Admission appears to be free, though do check locally as details can shift.
