Little Cranehill Copse

Walking into Little Cranehill Copse feels like stepping into someone's private woodland - the kind of place where you half-expect to bump into a gamekeeper. It's a proper patch of mixed woodland just outside Chipping Norton, nothing grand or manicured, just trees doing what trees do best: creating shelter, shade, and that particular quiet that only forests manage.

The copse itself is small enough that you won't spend hours here, but that's rather the point. It's ideal for a decent woodland walk if you're staying at Chipping Norton Camping and Caravanning Club Site or one of the holiday lodges nearby - Bluewood Lodges is only a few miles away and would make a natural pairing with a morning ramble through the trees. Families with young children will get a decent half-hour out of it; older kids might find it a bit limited on its own, though it works brilliantly as part of a broader Cotswolds walking route.

The forest floor is typically soft underfoot, which means even after rain it's manageable. There's genuine peace here - no gift shops, no visitor centre, no crowds pushing through with selfie sticks. It's the kind of woodland walk that reminds you why you came to the Cotswolds in the first place.

Go early or late in the day if you can. The light through the canopy is worth timing your visit for, and you'll have the place largely to yourself. Bring proper walking boots; it's dampish year-round.
