Little Cockcairn

Little Cockcairn sits just outside Aboyne and offers a straightforward hill walk with proper views across Deeside. It's not a lung-busting scramble - more a gentle push up moorland that takes a good hour each way depending on your pace. The summit itself is modest, nothing dramatic, but you get the Cairngorms spreading out to the west and the valley below laid out quite nicely. There's a rough path most of the way up, though it gets a bit boggy after rain, so decent boots matter here. Walkers will find it worth an afternoon outing, especially if you're staying at Firbank Park nearby and want to stretch your legs without committing to something huge. Families with confident young hikers can manage it - the route's straightforward enough that there's no scrambling or exposed bits to worry about, though it's steep enough in places to make little legs work. You won't find crowds here. It's the sort of walk locals do rather than tourists, which means parking is easy at the roadside and you're not queuing for anything.
