Linton Pocket Park

A strip of woodland and meadow tucked just outside Cambridge, Linton Pocket Park does exactly what it says on the tin - it's a small but genuine wild space, not some manicured green. The path winds through mixed trees with a decent wildflower meadow that actually looks like someone's left it alone rather than trimmed it within an inch of its life. Spring and early summer are when it properly comes alive: bluebells, then later the meadow fills with ox-eye daisies and field scabious.

This isn't a destination in itself - you won't need more than an hour, maybe ninety minutes if you're moving slowly and watching birds. It works best as a gentle morning walk before heading into Cambridge proper, or as a pocket of proper countryside if you're staying at HappenOak Treehouse nearby and fancy stretching your legs without driving anywhere. Dog walkers and local naturalists get more from it than most; families with very small children might find it a bit limited unless they're really into pond-dipping.

The park's free and accessible most days - though do check locally before you go, as opening hours aren't widely advertised online. It's the kind of place that rewards a quiet visit rather than a hectic one. Not spectacular, but genuinely worth an hour if you're in the area and want to see what real East Anglian wildlife habitat looks like when left largely to its own devices.
