Lewis Hill

The walk up Lewis Hill rewards you with proper views across the Forth Valley - on a clear day you can see right across the Lowlands and beyond. It's not a massive climb, but it's steep enough to get the blood moving, which makes the summit feel earned rather than a casual stroll.

This is walkers' territory. The hill sits near Stirling, close enough for a half-day outing but far enough from the town bustle to feel like genuine countryside. On the way up you pass through woodland and moorland, and the path is well-trodden enough that you won't get lost. Most people manage it in an hour or so, depending on fitness.

For families, it works fine if your kids are happy on their feet for a bit. Older children especially will enjoy the sense of achievement when they reach the top and spot the landmarks they recognise from below. Bring a packed lunch and you've got yourself an afternoon sorted.

It pairs well with a stay at Witches Craig Caravan & Camping Park, just six miles away. The park's highly rated and makes a solid base for exploring this corner of the Lowlands. If you're doing a few days in the area, Lewis Hill is the sort of walk you can slot in between visits to bigger attractions rather than a destination in itself. Worth doing though - the views are genuinely good, and Stirling's right there if you need shops or a proper meal afterwards.
