A substantial 17th-century mansion sitting on the edge of Glenrothes, Leslie House is one of those Scottish estates that quietly impresses without the fuss of the big-name attractions. The stone exterior has weathered centuries well, and the grounds give you a proper sense of what landed gentry life once looked like in Fife.

Inside, the rooms tell the story of the Leslie family's long tenure here - period furnishings, portraits, and domestic details that feel genuine rather than staged. It's the sort of place where history buffs will spend a good couple of hours poking around, while families with younger kids might find it feels a bit static after 45 minutes. There's no getting away from the fact that it's not Stirling Castle, but that's rather the point.

Access and opening can be a bit hit-or-miss - best to ring ahead rather than turn up hoping. Admission is modest when it is open. Allow a good hour, maybe 90 minutes if you're thorough.

For a base, you're well-positioned staying at any of the three nearby parks. Kingdom Caravan Park sits closest at 1.7 miles and offers solid four-star facilities. Balbirnie, just over two miles away, is excellent if you want the full campsite experience with its 4.8 rating. If glamping appeals, Wild Goose is worth the extra three miles. Leslie slots nicely into a wider Fife itinerary - you could pair it with walks around Balbirnie's own grounds or a potter round Glenrothes' town centre without much faffing about.
