Leac nam Buidheag

The walk up Leac nam Buidheag from near Beauly is modest in height but proper rewarding once you're on top. It's not a long slog - more of a decent afternoon push that gives you genuine Highland views without needing technical gear or hours of your day.

The summit itself is straightforward rocky ground with sight lines across to the bigger peaks around Glen Affric. On a clear day you're looking at Ben Wyvis and the Cairngorms. The approach path is well-trodden enough, though it's worth proper boots if the ground's been wet - bog is bog, no getting around it.

Families with older kids who've done a few hills will manage this fine. Young walkers might find it a touch dull since the terrain's fairly consistent all the way up, no dramatic scrambles or sudden reveals. The location near Cannich Woodland Camping and Caravan Park makes it an obvious add-on if you're basing yourself there for a few days. It'll take you three to four hours round trip depending on pace and how long you linger at the top.
