About Layham Park
You get a decent network of paths through here, mostly flat and well-maintained. I'd allow a solid hour to do it properly without rushing, maybe 90 minutes if you're stopping to spot birds or just breathing it all in. The reserve is proper quiet on weekday afternoons - families with younger kids will find it manageable, though it's not a "attractions" kind of place where there's much to keep restless teenagers entertained.
Free to explore, no entrance fee that I'm aware of. Spring and early autumn are best - summer can feel a bit dense and sticky under the trees, winter's pretty bleak unless you're specifically after bare woodland. It pairs well with Polstead Country Park just two miles away if you're staying in the area. That's more of a traditional country estate setup with facilities, so you could easily do both in a day - an hour here, then head to Polstead for lunch and more open parkland.
Worth visiting if you're in Suffolk doing the local park circuit, but don't travel hours specifically for it. It's the sort of place that rewards a quiet walk more than a family outing.
