Laverlock Law

A steep climb through mixed woodland rewards you with proper views across the Fife coastline. Laverlock Law sits just inland from Anstruther, and once you've hauled yourself up through the trees, you're looking out toward the North Sea with the East Neuk villages spread below. The walk itself is short but doesn't mess about - it's a genuine workout rather than a gentle stroll.

You're best off doing this if you actually like a bit of exertion. Families with young kids might find the gradient annoying; teenagers and adults who walk regularly will get their money's worth. There's nothing fancy at the top - no visitor centre or café - just trees, a bit of open space, and those coastal views. The woodland itself is pleasant enough, though nothing you haven't seen before.

Allow 45 minutes to an hour depending on fitness levels. Go on a clear day because the whole point is the view, and mist ruins it. Free to access as far as I can tell.

If you're staying at Off the Track or Sauchope Links - both excellent parks just down the road - this is a solid half-morning activity before you head into Anstruther for fish and chips. Worth combining with a coastal walk along the beach rather than making it your sole reason to visit the area.
