Lake Franklin

The lake itself is genuinely lovely for a walk around. It's free to visit and there's no faffing about with opening times - you can rock up whenever. Allow an hour for a proper walk around the perimeter, less if you're just after a quick blow about. The paths are decent enough, though they can get boggy after rain, so don't wear your best shoes. Families with older kids will find it peaceful rather than thrilling; younger ones might get restless. The real appeal is if you're after a bit of quiet and don't mind flat terrain. Worth combining with a visit to Cambridge itself - you get the best of both worlds: culture and countryside without driving miles.
