Knockie Wood

The trees here are proper tall - Douglas firs mostly, with enough space underneath that you can actually see where you're walking without ducking every five seconds. Knockie Wood sits just outside Blairgowrie, making it an easy slot into a week based at one of the nearby parks, particularly if you're at Blairgowrie Holiday Park itself, which is barely a mile away.

It's a straightforward woodland walk rather than anything flashy. You get forest tracks, a bit of peace, and the kind of quiet that makes city ears sing. The wood doesn't demand hours of your time - most people are through in forty minutes to an hour unless you're stopping frequently to admire moss or listen to birds. There are a few gentle ups and downs but nothing that'll test your fitness.

This works best for walkers who want something low-key between bigger days out. Kids will enjoy it if they're the type to potter about looking for things, but if you need dramatic views or playgrounds, you'll want to pair it with somewhere more structured. The nearby Corriefodly Holiday Park (3.8 miles down the road) and Five Roads Caravan Park offer good bases if you're planning several walks across the area.

Bring waterproofs. Perthshire stays damp even when it's not actively raining, and forest floors don't dry quickly. Go early in the day if you can - you'll have the place to yourself and the light filters through the trees beautifully in the morning.
