Knock of Buchromb

The walk up Knock of Buchromb rewards you with one of the cleaner views across Aberdeenshire - no faffing about with multiple false summits or surprise bog sections. It's a modest peak by Highland standards, but don't let that fool you. From the top, the Speyside valley spreads out properly, and on a decent day you can pick out the distant Cairngorms. The route itself is straightforward enough, though the approach from Keith can feel a bit exposed when the wind gets up. Allow a couple of hours for the round trip without pushing it. Families with decent walkers will manage fine - it's not technical, just honest hillside. The real draw here is how quickly you're away from anywhere, which matters when you're basing yourself at one of the local parks. Hillside Havens sits just up the road from Keith, making this a logical morning venture before lunch. Go in late spring or early autumn when the midges aren't having a field day and the light's actually worth the effort. Summer means thick cloud more often than not around these parts. Don't expect a cafe at the top or even a proper shelter - this is genuine countryside, the kind where you bring a flask and keep moving. Worth doing once if you're in the area staying put for a few days. Not the sort of thing you'd make a special trip for, though.
