Kinnoull Hill Woodland Park View Point

The walk up Kinnoull Hill takes about twenty minutes from Perth town centre, and it's steep enough that you'll feel properly earned the views at the top. What greets you is genuinely worth the climb - a panorama across the Tay Valley that stretches for miles, with the river itself snaking through farmland below and the Ochil Hills rising in the distance. On a clear day you can pick out Ben Lomond away to the west.

It's a nature reserve, so there's woodland on the way up - mixed conifer and broadleaf, nothing too dramatic but pleasant enough. The real draw is that viewpoint: two belvedere towers give you vantage points, and locals have been coming here for centuries because the vista is genuinely that good. The whole thing feels properly Scottish without being touristy.

History types will appreciate the old fortifications - there's medieval earthworks up there, which tells you people valued this spot for tactical reasons, not just the view. Walkers should allow a solid hour round trip if you're not rushed. Families with young kids might find the path a bit relentless on the way up, but teenagers will be fine.

It's free and accessible most of the year. If you're based at Scone Camping and Caravanning Club Site or Perth Caravan Park, you're basically on its doorstep - you could easily pop up for sunset. That's when it really shines, honestly. The light catches the river properly then.
