Kingsford Country Park

The woodland paths at Kingsford wind through proper old-growth forest - the sort of place where you actually feel like you've left Kidderminster behind, even though it's barely on your doorstep. It's a nature reserve rather than a manicured park, which means you get the real thing: uneven tracks, genuine wildlife spotting opportunities, and the kind of quiet that makes you remember why you came to Worcestershire in the first place.

Walkers will find this genuinely rewarding. The reserve covers enough ground for a decent couple-hour loop without being so vast that families with younger legs get frustrated. Bird watchers should bring binoculars - the wetland areas attract decent numbers of waders and waterfowl, particularly in spring and autumn. Children over six or so will enjoy the exploration element; anything younger might find it a bit too unstructured.

Access appears to be free and open, though it's worth checking locally as facilities and opening hours aren't widely advertised. Early morning is always best for wildlife. If you're basing yourself at any of these, Kingsford makes an excellent morning or late-afternoon circuit that won't eat your entire day but will deliver proper peace and quiet.
