King Henry VII Crowned Here 1485

The Battle of Bosworth Field in 1485 changed everything for England. This is where Henry VII defeated Richard III, ending the Wars of the Roses and launching the Tudor dynasty - and you can stand on the actual ground where it happened. The site sprawls across farmland near Market Bosworth, a few miles south of Nuneaton, and it's genuinely moving to walk the same earth where thousands fought and died over a crown.

There's a visitor centre with the full story laid out properly - no dramatised nonsense, just solid history. You'll see the trench lines, the memorial stones marking where key figures fell, and views across the battlefield that help you understand the tactics. Allow a good two hours if you want to absorb it; an hour minimum if you're just passing through.

History buffs will find it essential. Family groups with older kids who engage with the Tudor period will get plenty from it. Younger children might struggle unless they're already keen on the subject - it's not a theme park, and there aren't rides or interactive gimmicks. It's contemplative, occasionally windswept, and all the better for it.

If you're based at one of the caravan parks within a few miles - Bosworth Lakeside or Bosworth Caravan Park are closest - this makes an excellent half-day excursion. Combine it with Market Bosworth village itself, which has decent pubs and shops. Admission details aren't clear from here, so ring ahead before you visit.
