King George V Playing Field

A modest strip of grassland on the edge of Northleach, King George V Playing Field does exactly what it says on the tin - it's a proper local sports ground that doubles as a nature reserve. You won't find dramatic vistas or rare birds, but if you're based at one of the nearby campsites and fancy a gentle stroll with the family, it's a solid half-hour wander through open countryside.

The field itself is straightforward. Flat, accessible, good for letting kids burn off energy without the watchfulness required at more hazardous spots. Dog walkers seem to favour it, and there's something appealing about that - the kind of place where locals actually spend time rather than a tourist tick-box.

It works best as a quick leg-stretcher if you're staying at Bourton-on-the-Water Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite or Cotswolds Meadow Glamping rather than as a destination in itself. Neither of those sites is far away, so bundling this in with an afternoon exploring Northleach's market square or popping over to the Bourton-on-the-Water area makes sense. On a decent day the Cotswolds light is lovely here - worth bringing a camera, though don't expect scenery that'll take your breath away.

Historically minded visitors might appreciate the name alone - a nod to the reign - but there's no interpretation or anything. This is genuinely a place for people who want fresh air and movement, not stories. Worth the short drive from your campsite if the weather cooperates. Skip it if rain's forecast.
