Kiln Rough

Kiln Rough is a proper woodland walk just outside Guildford - the sort of place you stumble across and think 'why doesn't everyone know about this?'. It's genuine forest, dense in places, with decent footpaths that wind through mature trees and occasional clearings where the light actually gets through. Not huge, so you won't be wandering for hours, but it's the real deal rather than a manicured country estate.

The walks here suit anyone who just wants to breathe actual fresh air without the crowds. Families with kids of any age will get something out of it - toddlers can manage the easier routes, older children like the bit of adventure finding their way through the trees. It's brilliant for escaping the suburbs and feeling genuinely away from it all, which is no small thing in Surrey. You can't really get lost, and there are enough variations to string together a decent hour or two if you're not in a rush.

You'll want to go when the ground's not waterlogged - winter makes it properly muddy. Spring's lovely for the bluebells if you time it right. Free to access, so no barriers to entry.

If you're staying at one of the nearby glamping spots - Surrey Hills Yurts or The Green Escape - both within six miles, this works as a proper morning or afternoon break without needing to trek anywhere. It's exactly the kind of local woodland you want on your doorstep when you're supposed to be relaxing.
