Killead Presbyterian Church

The graveyard here tells more stories than most guidebooks ever could. Killead Presbyterian Church sits on quiet grounds outside Antrim, a working place of worship that's been serving this corner of County Antrim since the 1700s. The church itself is fairly modest - whitewashed stone, straightforward Protestant design - but it's the kind of place that rewards wandering around the grounds if you've got twenty minutes spare.

Walkers and local history types will get the most from it. The gravestones are genuinely interesting, marking generations of farming families and weavers who built their lives around these townlands. There's something properly grounding about reading names and dates stretching back centuries, especially if you've got any Ulster ancestry.

It's free to visit - just be respectful as it's an active congregation. Allow maybe half an hour if you want to actually look at the stones rather than just snap a photo and leave. The church itself is usually locked unless there's a service on, but that's fine; the real appeal is outside anyway.

If you're based at Six Mile Water Caravan Park or Blair's Castlewood just down the road, this makes a proper nice short walk to break up the day. It's not going to wow anyone after ten minutes, but as part of a longer ramble around the area it's genuinely worthwhile. The kind of spot that sticks with you more than the obvious tourist attractions do.
