Kilkenny Nature Reserve

The reserve sits just outside Cheltenham, a proper working landscape where you can actually see what conservation looks like rather than read about it behind glass. The walking is straightforward, mostly flat paths that take between one and two hours depending on how often you stop to watch things. Spring and early summer are prime time when the birds are nesting and the wildflowers are out. Winter's quieter but you might see overwintering wildfowl if it's been wet.
