Kibworth

Kibworth is a proper village that sits about nine miles south of Leicester, straddling the border between Leicestershire and Northamptonshire. Two villages, really - Kibworth Beauchamp and Kibworth Harcourt - separated by the River Welland, each with its own distinct character and heritage going back centuries.

What draws people here isn't a single showstopper attraction but the village itself. The high street has actual independent shops, a decent pub or two, and genuine local life that hasn't been entirely swallowed by chains. The churches are worth a look if you're into that sort of thing - St Wilfrid's in Beauchamp dates back to the medieval period. The river walk between the two halves is lovely without being demanding, maybe twenty minutes each way depending on your pace.

Families with school-age kids will find it a solid stop during a park holiday rather than a destination in itself. The proximity to Valley View Escapes - just 2.7 miles away - makes it convenient for an afternoon wander if the weather's decent. Fox's Furrow at 5.6 miles is also well-placed for a visit. There's enough here to stretch a couple of hours, perhaps grab lunch, potter about the shops. It won't keep you occupied all day, but that's rather the point. It's the sort of place you stumble upon between other plans.

Free to walk around, obviously. No admission charges. Summer weekends are probably your best bet for finding things open. Worth the short drive from Leicester if you're staying nearby and fancy something low-key.
