Kenwick Bar

The walk up Kenwick Bar is a proper leg-burner if you're not expecting it, but the effort pays off once you're standing at the top looking across the Lincolnshire Wolds. This isn't some grand mountain - it's a modest peak that nonetheless offers genuine views worth the huff and puff. The ascent from Louth is straightforward enough, though it does get steep toward the summit, and the ground can be boggy in places even when the rest of the county looks dry.

Most people allow between an hour and ninety minutes for the round trip, depending on fitness and how long you linger at the top. It's walkers' territory, really - the sort of spot where you'll see proper hiking types with proper boots, though families with decent-aged kids manage it fine. The views reward the climb: on a clear day you can see for miles across rolling countryside, which feels rather special in Lincolnshire's generally flatter landscape.

Timing matters. Early morning or late afternoon light makes the walk far more pleasant than a midday trudge, and obviously avoid it after heavy rain when the paths turn treacherous. Winter can be particularly grim. If you're staying at one of the nearby parks - Stewton Stars Hideaway is only 2.2 miles away, making this an ideal half-day outing - you could easily combine it with a wander around Louth itself, which has a pleasant enough high street for post-walk refreshments. Don't expect dramatic views or an Instagram moment, but do expect a genuine bit of exercise and some genuinely decent panoramas.
