Kennel Pond

A modest water's edge near Stroud that draws walkers and local fishermen rather than coach parties. Kennel Pond is exactly what its name suggests - small, quiet, and genuinely peaceful. You get a decent stroll round the perimeter, views across the water, and if you're lucky, sightings of waterfowl pottering about. Nothing flashy, but that's precisely the point.

It works best for people who like their countryside low-key. Families with young kids might manage twenty minutes before restlessness sets in; serious walkers will appreciate it as a leg-stretch on the way to somewhere else in the Cotswold Water Park network. Fishermen clearly know what they're doing here, so if you've got a rod and a licence, it's worth investigating.

The area around Stroud is genuinely good for a break. If you're staying at The Riverside Caravan Park - which genuinely earns its high rating - Kennel Pond is the sort of place you'd pop to on a morning walk before heading into town for lunch. Apple Tree Park Holiday Homes is similarly close, making this useful pocket space that doesn't demand a lot of effort. Free to visit, open access, no time limits. Go midweek if you can; weekends bring the fishermen out in force.

Worth the visit only if you're already in the neighbourhood. Don't drive twenty minutes out of your way just for this. But if you're based locally for the week, it's a proper little tonic.
