Keillor Hill

The walk up Keillor Hill takes you out of Blairgowrie proper and into proper Perthshire countryside - which is exactly the point. It's not a gruelling slog, more of a steady climb through mixed woodland that opens onto moorland views at the top. On a clear day you're looking across to the Grampians, which makes the effort feel worthwhile.

Allow about two hours return trip from the car park, depending on fitness. The path itself is well-trodden and generally clear, though boots are sensible after wet weather. It's a decent option if you've got kids who need tiring out but aren't quite ready for the serious hills. Teenagers will find it straightforward; younger children might need a proper break halfway.

The real draw is the perspective on the wider landscape rather than any dramatic summit moment. The Perthshire hills roll away in all directions, and if you time it right - early morning or late afternoon - you'll dodge the main crowd. Winter can be absolutely stunning up there if you catch it with snow.

If you're camping at Five Roads Caravan Park nearby, Keillor Hill is a sensible morning jaunt before tackling something more ambitious later in the week. It's free, of course, and fairly exposed at the top, so check the wind and weather before heading up. Worth the drive if you're based locally, but not so remarkable that you'd detour specifically from further afield.
