Jubilee Park

The centrepiece of Jubilee Park is a proper green lung for Leicester, the sort of place locals actually use rather than just drive past. It's a straightforward park - lawns, trees, the usual amenities - but it works well as a walking route or somewhere to kill an hour with a coffee and a think. The name marks Queen Elizabeth's Silver Jubilee, so there's a bit of 1977 nostalgia baked in, though the park itself has been refreshed over the years.

Families with young kids will get decent value from it. There's space to run about, and it breaks up a rainy afternoon better than most. It's not Drayton Manor or anything - don't expect rides or theme park pizzazz - but if you're staying at one of the nearby caravan parks like The Paddocks or Fortway Farm, it's an easy local option that won't require piling everyone in the car. Walkers benefit most, really. It's the sort of place you slip into for 45 minutes between other things, not a full morning's expedition.

Being in Leicester itself, it's well-placed if you're basing yourself in the area. Couple it with the city centre attractions - the King Richard III visitor centre is worth an hour - and you've got a decent day sorted. No special fees should apply, just standard park access, though it's worth checking ahead if facilities matter to you. Go on a weekday morning if you prefer elbows-room; weekends get busy with locals.
