His work genuinely changed how we think about punishment and rehabilitation.

What you get here is modest but meaningful. The site itself is straightforward rather than elaborate, which somehow feels appropriate for a man who valued substance over show. You'll find the memorial and can walk the grounds associated with his family home, getting a sense of where this reforming zeal began. It's not a sprawling visitor attraction with gift shops and interactive displays - this is the real thing, quietly important.

History enthusiasts will absolutely get it. Anyone with an interest in social reform or the Georgian period will find genuine value here. Families with older children studying the period might make the journey worthwhile, though younger kids won't be hugely entertained for long - it's perhaps an hour's visit at most, more if you're genuinely fascinated.

The Nuneaton area isn't known as a tourist powerhouse, but it's well placed for exploring the Midlands. Several caravan parks sit within a couple of miles - Bosworth Lakeside Lodges and Bosworth Caravan Park are particularly close. Combine it with Bosworth Battlefield if you're in the mood for more regional history. Worth the detour if you're already in Leicestershire, rather less so if it's purely a standalone trip.
